Navigon Brings Turn-By-Turn GPS Navigation to the iPhone

It’s not the first iPhone app that offers real turn-by-turn GPS navigation, but we’re still waiting for the heavyweights, such as TomTom, to start offering their GPS app, so NAVIGON’s MobileNavigator, which has been launched in Europe last month but now also works in the US, is a very interesting contender.
Here’s the thing about the iPhone’s GPS capabilities: the iPhone’s large touchscreen with multi-touch function is a dream come true for GPS applications. Many people have been looking forward to saving on buying a dedicated GPS solution, but true turn-by-turn GPS navigation has taken ages to reach the iPhone, and many users have simply given up on it by now. Hopefully, this is about to change soon.
NAVIGON MobileNavigator North America, at least on paper, has everything one would seek from a GPS navigator: NAVTEQ maps, 2D and 3D map view, speed assistant, day and night mode, points of interests (POI) etc. It also brings some iPhone specific features: automatic switching from portrait to landscape view, direct navigation to an address from saved contacts, as well as multi-touch zoom. The app (app), together with maps for North America, costs $99.99, but it’s offered at a promotional price of $69.99 until August 15.
